Art at Heart
Pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9, along with Mrs Sinnot, Mr Conway and Mr Norman, have been spending Wednesday afternoons at Ennerdale Nursing Home working alongside the residents on a number of Art projects. The idea behind this is to bring two generations together, attempting to overcome any mutual prejudices they may have and to promote better understanding each side of the age gap. The residents thoroughly appreciated the young people's visits and the pupils found the whole experience enlightening and extremely enjoyable. The end result is some excellent art work. FHS is hoping to build on this new relationship with regular visits from our Duke of Edinburgh students. They will undertake more art projects and assist with developing the garden by building bird tables and houses.
Summer Fun! Following on from the success of last year's cultural fun day in the summer, Learning Mentor, Mrs Jones was determined to make this year's event even bigger and better! She has just received word that she has been successful in her bid for funding from the Education Trust so there is no stopping her now! This event will be along a similar theme to last year's with each department choosing a country to base a day's lessons and activities around; these may include food, music and costume. Mrs Jones tells us that the theme will be more specific and will include raising awareness for countries that have endured natural disasters in the past year so that the school community can be more socially conscious. If last year's fantastic day is anything to go by, it should be fun!
