We are pleased to announce that our programme of Chinese language and culture lessons for year 7 and 8 pupils is continuing.
The classes run as part of our modern foreign language provision in addition to French. Pupils study Mandarin which is the official Chinese language and the most widely spoken language in the world. This is a very exciting opportunity for our pupils as they learn about another culture and expand their horizons.
The lessons are taught by a native speaker using the ‘pinyin’ system which allows children to learn the language easily in an interactive way. Pupils also learn some Chinese calligraphy and about aspects of Chinese culture.
Pupils are asked to complete homework relating to the lessons in order to practice writing Chinese characters and we ask parents / guardians support them in their learning.
The programme is an enjoyable and engaging learning experience which enables pupils to develop their higher level thinking skills as well as their confidence, concentration and engagement in the wider curriculum.
